Two late Goals from Godsent Benedict and Thompson Iyare gave KG Sports Academy of Agbor a glimmer of hope to book their ticket to the finals after coming from a 2-0 down.
Excellent FC who earlier Qualified via a walk-over of their opponent scored the opener via a penalty after a striker was brought down in the box. Despite the goal, KG Sports Dominated and could have leveled through Gangling Godsent Benedict but his shot failed to connect and went wide.
Excellent took the lead into the break and extended the lead to 2-0 in just 5 minutes into the restart of the match from a free-kick which evaded Goalkeeper Nzekwe Elvis.
Undaunted by the deficit KG Sports Academy surge forward and won a penalty with just 5 minutes to go. Striker Benedict Godsent stepped forward and converted to make it 2-1 to the delight of the fans and the ovation has hardly died down when substitute Oscar Onyenche was brought down at the edge of the box for a free-kick.
Winger Thompson Iyare stepped forward and fired home the equalizer that sent the stadium into a frenzy that one would have thought it was the home team that scored.
Incidentally, that was the last kick as the referee blew for the match to go into penalties.
KG Sports lost 6-5 after the penalty shootout went into sudden death as both sides missed one apiece before KG finally missed the last one.
“I am proud of the boys. We came here to learn as this is our first tournament outside Agbor and to get to this stage and putting up a good fight shows indeed why we are the Pride of Agbor” Dr. KEN Gadaffi, Director of KG told sports247.ng moments after the match.
“Kudos to the organizers and teams that came around, l am so excited to see well over 300 kids all justling to play football. It’s great and l hope this would continue” he added.
Excellent FC of Ughelli will take on Igho FC of Sapele in the Finals on Thursday to celebrate International Children’s day.
