Female tennis world number one, Simona Halep has disclosed that she suffered a slipped disc, from which she expects to get a full diagnosis from her doctor this week.
The Romanian ace retired from Sunday’s first-round match against Ons Jabeur at the China Open with a back injury, but she is optimistic of her chances of making speedy recovery.
The injury, though, puts her participation in this month’s WTA Finals in doubt, as it could force her to pull out of the end-of-season event from October 21 to 28 in Singapore.
The 27-year-old French Open champion admitted she does not know how long she will be out but added that she hopes to be back soon.
“I will discuss with doctors in the next few days and will keep you updated,” Halep said.
