Hajia Segilola Alaya Advocates for Women’s Inclusion in Sports, Receives Recognition at Kwara Sports Summit

Hajia Segilola Alaya, a board member of the Nigeria Football Federation Women Football Development Committee and founder of Abruka Queens Football Club, has called for increased participation of women in sports.

Speaking as the keynote speaker at the Kwara State Polytechnic SUG Sports Summit on Wednesday, Hajia Alaya urged parents and guardians to support their daughters who show interest in sports. She emphasized the importance of allowing young women to pursue careers in the sector and compete equally with their male counterparts.

She noted that with the right support from stakeholders and a conducive environment, more women can engage in sports, fostering its growth and addressing gender disparities in the industry.

Hajia Alaya also highlighted the need for grassroots sports facilities, pointing out that empowering young women through sports can help combat societal vices and provide a platform for their development.

In recognition of her remarkable contributions to sports development in Kwara State, Hajia Alaya was honored with an award, which she dedicated to her daughters: Ramat Jumoke Ajike, Sulyman, Rabee Ajike, and Mohammed Ayo Abdullahi Alaya.
