The Nigerian Professional Football League matchday 7 saw eight games played yesterday and the ‘Akure Gunners’ Sunshine Stars defeated Rangers Int’l 3-1 at the Akure Township Stadium.
The flying Antelopes came into the game 6th on the table with 11pta from 6 games while Sunshine stars were 8th with one point less than their opponents in the same number of games.
Sunshine Stars raced into a two-goal lead in the game courtesy of strikes from Sadiq Yusuf and Fuad Ekeleojuti in the 25th and 35th minute which they took into the break.
2016/17 NPFL Champions however came back stronger after the break and pulled a goal back in the 59th minute via Godspower Aniefok and then seeking to stage a comeback.
That was however not to happen as Chinedu Udechukwu put the icing on an already baked cake with a 61st-minute goal for the Akure Gunners to seal the game. Two red cards were shown afterward to players of both teams by the referee and both sides finished with ten men.
Sunshine stars now climb to 4th on the table and that certainly pleased the manager, Gbenga Ogunbote, whose side has picked up their 3rd consecutive win in the league and preserved their unbeaten home run.
