A spectacular showcase of talent and determination unfolded in Akure, Ondo State, as Government Secondary School (GSS), Eket, Akwa Ibom State, and African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta, Ogun State, clinched victory in the boys’ and girls’ categories of the Nigeria Secondary Schools Flag Football League (NSSFFL) Season 11.
The championship, aptly named ‘AKETI BOWL,’ witnessed intense competition, with teams vying for supremacy on the field.
In a gripping boys’ final, GSS Eket emerged triumphant by defeating Government Science Secondary School, Pyakasa, Abuja, to secure the prestigious title.
Meanwhile, in the girls’ division, African Church Grammar School showcased its prowess by triumphing over Ikeja Senior Grammar School, Lagos, to claim the well-deserved championship.
The national finals of NSSFFL, skillfully orchestrated by the Nigeria American Football Association (NAFA), witnessed the participation of more than 16 boys’ and girls’ teams from across the country.
Distinguished guests, including Ondo State’s Commissioner of Youth and Sports, Dele Ologun, and the Commissioner for Energy and Mines, Razak Obe, graced the event, highlighting its significance.
A remarkable highlight of the championship was the benevolent gesture of former presidential aspirant, Prof. Chris Imumolen, who presented a monumental N100 million worth of scholarships to the victorious teams.
In addition to this extraordinary gift, the champions were awarded a cash prize of N750,000.
The teams that secured the second position were honored with a commendable N500,000 each, while the third best-performing teams received a reward of N150,000.
Babajide Akeredolu, the President of NAFA, expressed his admiration for the exceptional performances exhibited by the participating teams throughout the national finals.
He pledged the association’s unwavering commitment to fostering the growth of Flag Football and American Football in Nigeria.
