In an exclusive interview with Sports 247, conducted prior to the riveting match pitting Riverside FC against Elite FC in the ongoing Friends and Brothers annual competition, Farouq shared his aspirations and insights as a committed grassroots footballer.
This year marks Riverside FC’s debut in the esteemed Friends and Brothers tournament, and Farouq’s anticipation is palpable. He expressed, “We boast a roster brimming with remarkable talent and untapped potential.
Our collective goal is to deliver a stellar performance and, if circumstances allow, progress to the final stage and secure a well-deserved medal.”
Offering his perspective on grassroots football, Farouq drew from his multifaceted experience, stating, “My journey has encompassed training sessions with numerous teams. Presently, I am proudly representing the LASPOTECH school team.
A sponsorship would undoubtedly alter the landscape significantly. The contemporary football scene thrives on having a sponsor, irrespective of one’s fame or skill level.
However, the fundamental essence remains that with sponsorship, challenges tend to ease.
Therefore, for individuals without sponsors, we channel our efforts into showcasing our best on the field and embracing the joy of playing the sport.”
Farouq emphasized the collective spirit that fuels Riverside FC’s journey, saying, “As a team that currently lacks sponsors, we collaboratively contribute to fulfilling the team’s requirements. From acquiring new balls and whistles to bibs and more, we manage these necessities through pooled efforts. It truly embodies the essence of teamwork and camaraderie.”
Intriguingly, Farouq unveiled the altruistic dimension that underscores Riverside FC’s aspirations for victory, sharing, “Should we emerge victorious in this tournament, the winnings will not trickle into individual pockets.
Instead, the funds will be allocated to the team’s resources. These funds serve as a reservoir to address our collective needs and ensure the team’s continued growth and success.”
As the Friends and Brothers competition unfolds, Oladipupo Farouq’s dedication and perspective encapsulate the spirit of grassroots football – a realm where passion, unity, and commitment coalesce to nurture not only players’ skills but also the bonds that define the beautiful game.
