Popularly known as the master tactician for his vast knowledge and ideas of how to play the game of football and cope with in-game challenges, Ayere Sylvester has carved a niche for himself and is ready for the challenges of the new year.
The former Freiburgerweg FA coach visited his home city, Kaduna for a 15 days vacation to relax, refresh and reflect on the successes and challenges of the last year in review before returning to Lagos as he declared himself “ready” for the new year.

Speaking to Sports247, he said, “2021 was a very dramatic, deep, interesting and a good learning curve year for me as a coach. Winning trophies, securing playoff tickets, it was really tasking with a lot of mental, psychological, and emotional stress, with little or no time to rest and the brain is always working round the clock to meet up the personal standards set especially with two coaching certificates secured as well.”
He also shed light on the importance of the vacation and the fact that it is not meant for only top coaches.
“In life, there comes a time when you have to take a break and refill your gas,” Ayere said. “Vacation is not only meant for top coaches or those in the EPL and so on like Jose and Pep who go on vacation, likewise the big players but it’s not seen that way in Nigeria especially at the grassroots level where many coaches don’t see the need for it. Coaching involves emotions and to stay at your best, the mind needs to be refreshed, spend time with family and friends, people who you know genuinely love you and the likes in an off-season form, set goals for the new season as well.”
Ayere Sylvester won two trophies in the space of 40 days with two different teams in 2021, first the KOBIS SCOUTING TOURNAMENT with Freiburgerweg FA and the ECKO QUEENS CHAMPIONSHIP with Oasis Ladies FC. He also got Rainieri Ladies FC to the playoffs of the Social Liga in what is their first season of participating.
Ahead of the new year 2022, he shared his goals and set a major target to securing promotion into the women’s top-flight league in Nigeria.
“For the 2022 season, I’m looking forward to having more coaching education, expanding my certificates with courses and seminars, winning more trophies, experimenting more in terms of tactics and the year is looking interesting already,” Ayere Sylvester said.
“The major target is to promote Oasis Ladies to the NWFL and then any other tournament we participate in basically,” he concluded.
