Jelil Kamaldeen, grandson of the revered Sheikh Muhammed Kamaldeen Al-Adaby, Nigeria’s first Grand Mufti of Ilorin, is carving out a unique path as a rising football talent.
Despite his family’s deep-rooted heritage in Islamic scholarship and propagation, Jelil has chosen to pursue his passion for football, a decision that reflects his determination to forge his destiny.
Sheikh Kamaldeen, renowned for his pioneering contributions to Islamic teachings and Arabic education, left behind a legacy that continues to inspire the Adabbiyah sect. Jelil, however, is charting a different course.
Speaking after his team, Kwara Football Academy, clinched victory in the inaugural Pro Route League on Sunday, Jelil shared his ultimate ambition: to win the FIFA World Cup for Nigeria and excel at the highest levels of football.
“Choosing football wasn’t easy, especially with my family’s focus on Islamic propagation,” Jelil admitted. “But my mother has been my biggest supporter from day one. She always told me that no matter where you come from, you can achieve your dreams.”
Jelil credits his Islamic upbringing for giving him strength and focus on the pitch. “Before every game, I pray and recite the Quran. It gives me confidence and keeps me grounded,” he explained.
The skillful midfielder, known for his goal-scoring prowess and creativity, has been a standout performer for Kwara Football Academy. His exceptional display during their decisive 3-0 victory over Barrier FA earned him the Man of the Match award and helped secure the league title.
Reflecting on the achievement, Jelil said, “Winning this trophy means a lot to me and the team. It’s a result of hard work and dedication.”
Having recently returned from a trial abroad, Jelil is set to finalize a deal with a European club, bringing him closer to his dreams. “I want to play in Europe, win the UEFA Champions League, and ultimately, bring the World Cup to Nigeria,” he declared confidently.
With his determination, talent, and faith, Jelil Kamaldeen is a name to watch in Nigerian football.
