In a goodwill message, the governor acknowledged the importance of the win, especially following previous underwhelming performances.
“We needed this victory to get our qualification campaign back on track, and the boys delivered brilliantly. Despite the challenge of playing against a packed Rwandan crowd, the Nigerian spirit prevailed, bringing celebration across the country from Sokoto to Uyo,” he stated.
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s match in Uyo, Governor Eno urged Akwa Ibom residents and Nigerians nationwide to turn out in large numbers, proudly dressed in the national colors of green and white, to cheer the team to another victory.
“The Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo is known as a fortress for the Eagles, and we will ensure it remains so on Tuesday,” he added.
Following today’s win, Nigeria now sits in fourth place with six points, trailing group leaders South Africa by four points after five matches. A victory in Uyo will further boost the Super Eagles’ chances of securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
