Governor Sule Rewards Nasarawa Amazons With N10m For Betsy Obaseki Cup Triumph

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Wednesday welcomed the victorious Nasarawa Amazons to the Government House in Lafia following their remarkable triumph at the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Pre-season Cup Tournament in Benin City.

Praising the team’s resilience and skill, Governor Sule presented them with a cash reward of N10 million to supplement their prize money from the tournament.

He emphasized that their achievement exemplified hard work, commitment, and the indomitable spirit of Nasarawa State.

“I am glad to receive our champions of today and, by God’s grace, tomorrow, the pride of Nasarawa State. Your victory is not just a win for Nasarawa Amazons but for every citizen of our state,” the Governor said.

He extended his gratitude to Hajiya Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo, the Club Chairperson, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for their support.

He assured the team that their challenges had been noted and would be addressed promptly.

The Governor also reiterated his administration’s dedication to advancing sports, pledging continued support to the Amazons, Nasarawa United, and other sports initiatives. He noted the ripple effect of sports achievements in attracting investors to the state.

Hajiya Nagogo expressed her gratitude for the Governor’s unwavering support and recounted the team’s flawless run in the tournament, culminating in a tense penalty shootout victory against Bayelsa Queens.

She highlighted the team’s individual accolades, including the golden boot and golden glove awards, as well as their contribution to Nigeria’s national teams.

State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jafaru Ango, attributed the team’s success to Governor Sule’s strategic investment in sports and assured the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing future talents.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of trophies, medals, and a symbolic cheque for N10 million, as well as photographs with dignitaries, solidifying the Nasarawa Amazons’ status as champions and ambassadors of the state.
