Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, welcomed players and officials of Nasarawa United Football Club to his Gudi country home in Akwanga Local Government Area on Monday.
The visit, held in the spirit of Sallah celebrations, was an opportunity for the Governor to express his pride and joy at the team’s recent promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Governor Sule was accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, along with several high-ranking government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Muhammad Aliyu-Ubandoma, and various commissioners and aides.
The Governor congratulated the team for their dedication and commitment, which have brought honor to the state.
Addressing the team, Governor Sule said, “Our dear worthy Champions of Champions, I wish you all a happy Sallah Celebration.
It’s not just about gaining promotion back to the Premier League that makes everyone happy; it’s about your dedication, commitment, and your belief that you could do it.”
He shared his joy in following the team’s progress, especially through the updates from the Club’s Media Officer, Eche Amos.
Sule revealed his plan to further support the team by addressing existing challenges and strengthening both the squad and management ahead of the 2024/25 NPFL season.
Governor Sule also congratulated FC Basira, a Lafia-based 3rd Division team, for their promotion to the National League, praising the owner for his dedication to uplifting football in the state.
As a gesture of appreciation, he donated Two Million Naira to Nasarawa United and One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira to the Supporters’ Club, promising a special reception at the Government House after the holiday where further rewards will be announced.
The State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jafaru Ango, represented by Permanent Secretary Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, praised the Governor for his unwavering support.
Danladi highlighted the team’s resilience and the Governor’s directive to return the club to the elite league, a goal that has now been achieved.
Nasarawa United Chairman, Dr. Othman Ahmed Ibrahim, expressed his fulfillment at achieving the Governor’s mandate, noting the team’s perfect record in the Super Eight Play-off and their undefeated home games during the season.
He thanked the Governor, Deputy Governor, and supporters for their continuous backing.
The event concluded with the presentation of medals won at the NNL Super Eight tournament to the Governor, who reciprocated with traditional kola nuts and financial support, reinforcing his commitment to the team’s success.
Nasarawa United’s promotion marks a triumphant return to the Premier League after just one season away, symbolizing a new chapter of ambition and excellence for the club and the state.
