Governor Ikpeazu Preseason: Time Will Heal Our Wounds – Popoola Joseph

CFC Media | 18th November 2020

After losing our third match at the ongoing Governor Victor Okezie Ikpeazu Preseason Tournament in Aba, Abia State. Interim manager Popoola Joseph still believes it’s a matter of time before the glorious days are restored.

The game started on a bright note for Cynosure as we kept our opponent under control until a patient build-up play by Abia Comets resulted into the opener of the match by Kayode Careca Agboola in the 7th minute.

Cynosure patiently got back into the game with a resolute and strong defensive display especially by goalkeeper Onu Olughu who forced some strong saves from the Abia Comets players. The first half ended with the lone goal separating the sides.

The second half began positively for Cynosure FC with dangerous free kicks going in their favour. They soon capitalised on one of them as Abuma Kings shot was too hot for Comets goalie, Mela Eriose to handle as the ball scrabbled through his legs.

Cynosure gain much momentum and pressured deeply with beautiful style of play and fascinating passes to unlock the “Comets” defense but were unable to capitalise on their chances.

As the game wears on, goalkeeper Onu Olughu, who put on a man-of-the-match performance was then unfortunately and controversially penalised for bringing down Kayode Agboola in the 18 yard box. Penalty! Hycent Olie then coolly coverts the spot kick in the 80th minutes.

A pill too bitter to swallow for Cynosure FC as we were humbled for the third time in Aba.

On the loss and the way forward, interim coach Joseph Popoola said “We fought and did everything possible to get the win. Though the team is still in progress, we’ve seen the areas that needs to be worked on and we believe that, very soon we will bounce back to our winning ways.”
