For a few hours on Sunday, October 8th, 2023, the capital of Anambra state stood still as a high-powered dignitary led by the executive Governor of the state, His Excellency, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo graced the opening ceremony of the biggest football competition in the South East; the Solution Community Shield Championship at the Awka City stadium.

The Governor, accompanied by his Deputy, Hon. Onyekachukwu Ibezim arrived at the venue to much funfair as 179 President Generals under the Anambra State Association of Town Unions with their town representatives already seated.
The 179 towns proceeded to do a march pass acknowledged by Mr Governor.
The Governor speaking after assured Ndî Anambra that his administration will make sure that youths are empowered through sports and football in particular.
He emphasized the importance of football in fostering unity and ensuring peace within the state.
He promised to back the FA in football development programs and reserved special praise for the FA Chairman Gen Chikelue Iloenyosi alongside the Chairman of the Sports Commission, Hon Estate Onyedum and President of ASATU Barr Titus Akpudo for such an initiative.
The FA Boss thanked Mr Governor for being a father figure, leaving his tight schedule and being with the football family of Anambra State.
He assured him that this tournament will bear fruits as his office and that of the Sports Commission have already inaugurated a committee that will be spotting talents that will be motivated for bigger moves.
General as he fondly called thanked the Deputy Governor as well for his support.
He appreciated the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze for his unflinching support.

Also present was the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Solo Chukwudebelu. The Commissioner for LGA and Chieftaincy affairs Hon. Collins Nwabunwanne, Chairman Anambra State Sports Commission, Hon. Estate Onyedum, and numerous House of Assembly members.
In the unofficial match to kickoff proceeding Ogidi town defeated Awka town by a lone goal to entertain the mammoth crowd in the stadium.
The draws for the tournament will be held at the ASATU office on Tuesday 10th of October by 10 a.m.
