Governor Dapo Abiodun Approves Recruitment of 1,000 Additional Amotekun Corps Members to Boost Ogun State Security

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the recruitment of 1,000 additional personnel for the Amotekun Corps to enhance security across the state.

He also reiterated his commitment to ensuring Ogun remains inhospitable to criminals, pledging to provide more patrol vehicles, electric motorcycles, communication gadgets, and other essential tools for the Corps to perform effectively.

The announcement was made during the passing-out parade of 690 Batch D trainees at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu, on Saturday.

Governor Abiodun emphasized that the establishment of the Amotekun Corps aims to bolster grassroots security while also addressing unemployment in the state.

Commending the dedication and training of the current batch, the governor approved the additional recruitment, raising the total number of Corps members to over 2,000.

He assured that the new recruits would be well-enumerated in line with civil service standards and equipped with necessary logistics to ensure efficient operations.

“This event represents a significant milestone in our quest to enhance security. I am impressed by the level of training and commitment displayed.

With this, we are sending a clear message to criminals that Ogun State will not be a haven for their activities,” Governor Abiodun stated.

He urged the newly trained Corps members to prioritize intelligence gathering and collaboration with traditional rulers and other security agencies for effective community policing.

The governor also advised them to avoid using their position to intimidate or harass citizens but to focus on securing lives and property.

Brig. Gen. Alade Adedigba (rtd), Commandant of the Corps, highlighted that the trainees underwent rigorous physical training, weapon handling, and intelligence gathering.

He commended the state government for its continued support, which has included the provision of new uniforms, communication gadgets, and the repair of patrol vehicles and motorcycles.

The event featured prize distributions for various competitions, including football matches, tug of war, and cultural displays.

Governor Abiodun also called on residents to cooperate with the Corps by providing valuable information to help combat crime and maintain peace across Ogun State.
