Government Secondary School, Karu, Abuja, and Topfield College, Ajegunle, Lagos State, emerged as champions in the boys and girls’ categories respectively at the thrilling 23rd Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship held at the National Stadium in Lagos.

In the boys’ final, Government College Karu faced off against Father O’Connel Science College, Minna, in a nail-biting clash.
With the stakes high, Government College Karu managed to secure a hard-fought victory, defeating their opponents by a narrow margin of 46-43 to claim the championship title. On the other hand, in the girls’ final, Lagos’ Topfield College exhibited their skill and determination as they battled against Government Secondary School, Karu, Abuja.
In a fiercely contested match, Topfield College emerged triumphant with a final score of 53-50, securing the girls’ championship.
The intensity of the final matches had the spectators on the edge of their seats as both teams left no stone unturned in their quest for victory. Following their boys’ triumph, coach Andre Abeche of Government College, Karu, Abuja, commended his players for their unwavering commitment and mental strength during the decisive game. He acknowledged the tough nature of the match and expressed gratitude for their ultimate victory.
In recognition of their outstanding performances throughout the tournament, individual accolades were awarded. Joshua Augustine from Government Secondary School, Karu, FCT, received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the boys’ category for his exceptional contributions to his team’s success. Uchechi Augustina from Topfield College was bestowed with the girls’ MVP award, acknowledging her pivotal role in guiding her team to victory.
Reflecting on their path to triumph, Coach Godspower Anokam of Topfield College attributed their success to the team’s hard work and unwavering dedication. He emphasized the importance of thorough preparation, revealing that his team had undergone two months of rigorous training to fine-tune their skills and strategies. Coach Anokam celebrated their significant achievement and pledged to continue working diligently to develop talented young players at the grassroots level.
