Lobi Stars boss Gbenga Ogunbote thought his team was a good value for their 1-0 success at the Stephen Keshi Stadium against Cynosure FC on Thursday.
Alex Aghahowa’s well-taken spot-kick on 71 minutes made it a winning start for the Pride of Benue.
Coach Ogunbote, obviously delighted, believed it was a deserved success.
“We were compact, aggressive, intense… These are the marks of the history of Lobi Stars and gradually we are incorporating these traits into the team, making them better,” Gbenga Ogunbote told Gov Okowa Pre Season Media.
The former Sunshine Stars boss felt winning the first game of the Gov Okowa Pre Season Tourney has given his players more confidence and will help to settle them down in Asaba.
“We must learn how to adapt to the way our opponents play.
“It was our first game of the competition and we knew it would be difficult, but we were strong in defence and I’m happy with the work the team put in after an enormous physical effort, although we didn’t play as we usually do.
“However, we were worthy winners and did a good job of closing them down.”
