Gossy Ukanwoke, the Managing Director of BetKing Nigeria, reflected on the company’s six-year journey and its impact on Nigerian football In an exclusive interview with Sports247.
Ukanwoke expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, stating, “It’s been six years.
And just like yesterday, looking at six years just laid back, how will you rate everything? I think it’s good because there’s always better and we don’t want to say that it is fantastic and then there’s nothing to look forward to. It’s good. And we’re looking at the next six years to be much better than the last six years of the business.”
Over the past six years, BetKing Nigeria has been instrumental in the development of Nigerian football. The company has supported professional teams, academies, charities providing football programs, and orphanages. Gossy Ukanwoke believes that these efforts are laying a solid foundation for professional football in the country.
He said, “Yeah, so far so good. We’ve supported teams that play professionally. We are supporting academies, we are supporting charities that are providing football programs and orphanages. Touching as many stratas of football as possible because I believe that’s where the foundation is of football. We’ve also gotten ahead even in sporting initiatives that develop football playing or facilities because we want to hopefully see that our impact can trickle into the upward professional football that we see in the country.”
One of the teams BetKing Nigeria supports, Ikorodo, has already begun making strides into the professional league. This is a testament to the effectiveness of the company’s support and the potential of Nigerian football.
Recently, Nigeria concluded the Nations Cup, and BetKing Nigeria was a significant part of it. When asked about the company’s target for sports development, Gossy Ukanwoke emphasized the unifying power of sports, particularly football. He expressed hope that local talents would continue to emerge from local football and local leagues.
These talents, he believes, can become global talents that can build global teams. As these teams grow, so does the unity they bring to the country.
He stated, “Sports is something that unites us as a country. Football particularly unites us as a country. So if I’m to set a target is that we continue to have such talents coming out of our local football. We have such talent coming out of our leagues, local leagues that can then become global talents that can build global teams, that can build global teams. The African teams and Nigerian teams within our league can also become teams that are playing at the global stage. It grows on and on because as that grows, the unity that it builds for us as a country also grows with it.”
BetKing Nigeria, a brand known for its high return on investment, is always on the lookout for more sponsorship opportunities. Gossy Ukanwoke confirmed that the company is open to supporting brands, initiatives, and activities that align with their focus and help the brand achieve its goals.
He said, “Yeah, well, based on our strategy as a brand, based on our strategy as a company, if we see brands, we see initiatives, we see activities that align with our focus. We’ll be able to see how we can support it when we also see how it helps the brand achieve its own goals.”
In conclusion, BetKing Nigeria’s journey over the past six years has been marked by significant contributions to Nigerian football. With their continued support and investment, the future of Nigerian football looks promising.
