Gombe State is poised for a thrilling display of athleticism and sportsmanship as the 2025 Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Competition gears up to commence.
A total of 73 schools from 11 Local Government Areas have confirmed their participation in the championship, scheduled to take place from 19th to 25th January 2025 at the Pantami Township Stadium, Gombe Metropolis.

This eagerly awaited event will feature a diverse range of competitions, including sprints (100m, 200m, 400m), middle- and long-distance races (800m, 1500m, 3000m), relay events (4×100m and 4×400m), and field events such as shot put, long jump, high jump, triple jump, and javelin throw.
Adding to the excitement, youth football teams will also compete in the Principal’s Cup, culminating in a grand finale.
Among the participating schools are GDSS Dukku West, GSS Bolari East, Emerald International Academy, and Diocesan High School, representing both public and private institutions.
The competition aims to uncover young athletic talents, foster youth development, and promote sportsmanship across the state.
A significant highlight of the event will be the presence of talent scouts from Germany, led by former Flying Eagles captain and UEFA License Coach Andrew Uwe, alongside Coach Henry Ambrose from AGIC-Diaspora Football Outreach.
Their mission is to identify and support emerging talents during the Principal’s Cup Football Competition.
The opening ceremony on 19th January will feature a grand march past, while the closing ceremony on 25th January will include medal and award presentations to outstanding athletes and schools.
Participants and spectators will enjoy the amenities of a fully equipped Games Village, complete with security, accommodation, healthcare, food, and entertainment.
Organized by the Gombe State Athletics Association under the leadership of Hon. Ahmad Shuaibu Gara-Gombe and sponsored by the Green White Green Sports Center, the championship has drawn over 3,500 participants.
It promises to be a transformative platform for nurturing future athletes while fostering collaboration and camaraderie among schools.
