Gombe State Athletics Association Chairman, Ahmed Shaibu Gara-Gombe, has issued a plea to the private sector, urging their support in the association’s mission to foster sports development within the state.

Gara-Gombe emphasized that assistance could come in the form of sponsoring grassroots programs or financing new developmental projects.
Addressing the audience during the recently concluded inter-primary schools athletics championship held at the Pantami Township Stadium in Gombe, the athletics chairman expressed his association’s commitment to nurturing world-class athletes. He emphasized the importance of identifying and nurturing talented athletes from a young age, ensuring their comprehensive development.
The inter-primary school competition showcased the athletic prowess of pupils from various primary schools, with a range of events including the 100m race for boys and girls, sack race, egg race, bottle race, high jump, and long jump, among others.
Gara-Gombe, driven by a desire to revive athletics at the grassroots level and groom young talents who can represent the state at the national level in the future, expressed optimism that these efforts would yield fruitful results. He stressed the need for adequate support from the government and corporate entities to ensure the success of their initiatives.
Fatima Umar Abubakar, the Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), also addressed the program and assured that the government is committed to investing in sporting activities within the state. Furthermore, she pledged to encourage every endeavor aimed at fostering the growth and development of sports in Gombe.
The call for private sector involvement in sports development aligns with the overarching goal of creating a robust sporting ecosystem within Gombe State. By leveraging the support of corporations and businesses, the Gombe State Athletics Association aims to provide young athletes with the necessary resources and opportunities to excel in their chosen disciplines.
