The dawn of a new era for aspiring football champions has begun as the Gombe Sporting Football Club initiated its much-anticipated screening and scouting exercise in Gombe metropolis.
The program seeks to identify and recruit talented young footballers from within and outside Gombe State into the club.
The General Manager of the club, Aliyu Lamido, expressed his excitement over the impressive turnout of participants.
He revealed that the event, held at the Army Barrack Football Field, was made possible through the sponsorship of Hon. Ahmed Shuibu Gara-Gombe, CEO of Green White Green Sports Centre Limited, a renowned sports entrepreneur.
A total of 57 players are attending the exercise, with participants hailing from other states like Kogi, Niger, Osun, Plateau, Kebbi, and Bauchi, as well as from local government areas within Gombe State, including Billiri, Akko, Balanga, and Deba. The players showcased their football skills in hopes of earning a spot on the team.
Umaru Kenya, head of the screening exercise, emphasized the importance of discipline, perseverance, and commitment among the players.
He assured participants of a fair and unbiased selection process, adding that the screening exercise would last three days.
Mr. Kenya expressed gratitude to the sponsor for covering the costs of training equipment, football kits, and first aid supplies. He noted that such support motivates players and creates opportunities for local talents to excel.
