Gombe Bulls’ Coach Samson John Wants D’Tigers To Start Preparations Early For AfroBasket 2025

Gombe Bulls’ basketball club’s coach, Samson John has called for early commencement of preparations for Nigeria’s national team, D’Tigers, before heading to the continental championship in Angola.

Sports247 reports that D’Tigers got the better of Uganda, Cape Verde and hosts Libya during the last qualification tournament for this year’s African Basketball Championship, but Coach John stressed that the journey has just started.

He pointed out that for Nigeria to do better than their shaky performance at the 2021 edition and return to the sterling form that saw them emerge champions in 2015, preparations must start well ahead of their trip to Angola.

While also suggesting that the squad should be beefed up with new players, the soft-spoken slam-dunk expert stressed that only early planning by Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) will see D’Tigers excel at AfroBasket 2025, which is scheduled to hold from August 12-24 in the cities of Luanda, Benguela and Namibe.

“We’ve already qualified, and now what next? Everything in Nigeria is not on time. It’s always late and sharp-sharp. But, this is a major competition, and everyone in the federation should think about how to make early preparations. I also expect that we should change one of two players in the team, as we are moving forward,” John retorted.
