Grassroots football development especially in Imo state over the weekend took a huge step forward when one of the latest sides, Golden Boot Football Academy officially unveiled its players and officials with revelation of a wonder kid, Iroha Winner Onyebuchi “Morata”.
Speaking to press at the event which held at the Imo State Polytechnic Sports Arena, Umuagwo, the CEO and President of the club, Dr Nwamiri Sunday Ikedinaobi said he was motivated into football club proprietorship to help bridge the gap between talented young stars at the grassroots and success by providing them with a platform with which to launch their God given skills.
The business morgul who’s love for football knows no bound said, “their are numerous untapped raw football talents in our rural areas and my vision is to use the academy to provide modern facilities with well trained experts to nurture and expose them to become professionals in the near future”.
In his own assertion, the Chief Coach of the academy, Mr Franklin Duru who hails from Ehime Mbano LGA and possesses over 10 years experience in grassroots football coaching said the players are beginning to gel as a team learning the basic skills and discipline even as they just resumed after the break occasioned by the COVID -19 pandemic disease outbreak.
The former player of NITEL FC Lagos, Shell FC Lagos, Desert Warriors FC Kumbar in Cameroon before he retired into coaching said the young lads look good to take on any side especially for the purpose of exposure and learning.
Part of the dignitaries who witnessed the unveiling including ex Super Eagles player and member of the Atlanta 96′ Olympic football gold winning Dream team, Mobi Oparaku, he commended the CEO, Dr Ikedinobi for his vision and determination to invest in young talents noting that with the right training and facilities that the sky will be their limit.
The team later played an exhibition match for the fans who turned out to witness the unveiling of the team which is already affiliated with the Imo state Football Association and has registered for the next Aiteo Cup at the state level with the wonder kid in the block, 13 years old Iroha Winner Onyebuchi “Morata” also in action to the delight of the fans.
