Captain of the Super Falcons and FC Barcelona striker, Asisat Oshoala has pointed out that the team’s goal is not winning the tournament in Turkey.
The Nigeria Women’s national team will play their first game of the tournament on Thursday against CSKA Moscow Women.
Sharing her thoughts with the Super Falcons media on Tuesday, Oshoala said the goal is not to win the tournament.
“The goal is not to win the tournament, the goal is to have the national team back together. We have not been together for close to two years, that is really not good for us.”
“As a captain, I am happy the team is back together, getting the girls together as a national team, meeting our new coach physically as well. The goal is to keep the team together moving forward.” She added.
The four-time CAF Women football of the year applauded the NFF for accepting the tournament.
“Thanks to the NFF, we needed this tournament. We need it to prepare for the AWCON which is our next big tournament. We needed to have that team feeling before such tournament.”
“I’m glad the girls are back together and I hope this will continue after this tournament, we need more camping and more togetherness.” She continued.
The Super Falcons had not been involved in any competitive match since 2019.
