Veteran football coach, Godwin Koko Uwua has come out with a stern piece of advice to tacticians in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), with a charge that they should stop complaining after matches.

Godwin Koko Uwua, who made top marks some years ago, while coaching Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Enyimba of Aba, Niger Tornadoes of Minna and Bendel Insurance of Benin City, also said it is unprofessional to criticise match officials.

Sports247.ng further gathered that, in his effort to prove that the current setting of the NPFL has gained massive improvements, Uwua insisted that coaches should take in good fate any result their team gets.

He asked rhetorically, “Why is that some coaches complain when they lose a match? When they win, they will not talk.

“Some of us have to be very careful these days. That’s why, in my days, I always talked in the right way.

“Even when I lose, I applaud the opponents for defeating me. These same referees you think are doing what you don’t want, you are going to meet them again tomorrow.”

He stressed that, instead of apportioning blame for any defeat, a wise coach would use it to rebuild his team and plan on how to do better in the next game.

“You have to be very, very careful the way you criticise.

“If you lose a game, just prepare yourself, and a better result will come in another match,” the outspoken tactician philosophised.

The former under-20 national team, Flying Eagles, and ex-under-23, Olympic Eagles’ gaffer then acknowledged the role of human nature in various reactions that follow diverse situations.

Uwua clarified his point of view with a realist addition, as he refrained: “I’m not saying there won’t be complaints.

“There’s nothing on earth that can be free of complaints, but we have to be cautious about it.

“There definitely must be something to complain about. Even in Europe, it happens.

“When you play away, there must be one or two disadvantages against your team; maybe from the supporting end or whatever.

“You are not used to the turf over there, and you are not used to the supporters.

“There will be one or two things that cause distractions here and there,” he reasoned.

Uwua concluded by urging gaffers in the NPFL to take results the way they come and simply prepare for the next game, because he believes the organisers have done a lot to improve the league.
