An attacking midfielder with Sporting FA of Lagos, Godwin Samuel Niniola has revealed reasons behind his decision to learn how to become a carpenter while also playing football.
The youngster, who is fondly called ‘Osimhen’ by his close friends, due to his hair style and dress sense, which are like that of the Napoli of Italy star, disclosed that he decided to learn carpentry as a back-up to his football talent.
Niniola, who also takes Osimhen as his role model and major inspiration in football, added that other young players should also learn one vocation or the other to complement their strides in football.
He hinted that skill acquisition ventures in carpentry, tailoring, shoemakers, barbing, and other vocational activities would come in handy after someone’s football career or in the advent of injuries.
The soft-spoken lad, who trains regularly at Lagos National Stadium in Surulere, expatiated: “Outside my football, I’m into furniture making. I learnt it, and I also have friends who are blending football with other things.
“I have friends who are barbers, some are tailors, and they are still playing football.
“My advice is for every young player aspiring to play for a big club, while still waiting for the opportunity to come, to engage in learning a trsde as well.
“Don’t rely on football alone; have something else doing. You must engage yourself in one or two types of handwork. It really helps a lot.”
