Former Super Eagles defender Godwin Opara has charged emerging footballers to embrace discipline and develop a heart of service whenever they are on international duty with Nigeria.
Opara says commitment has been the bane of the Eagles team lately which was why they haven’t been able to scale the hurdle to qualify for the AFCON in back to back editions.
“There are some aspects in football that players must embrace if they are to be successful in their chosen career. That is discipline,” the former Super Eagles defender told Sports247.ng.
“When an upcoming footballer makes this as his watchword, he won’t have problem surmounting any hurdle.”
“It’s a privilege to play for the national side because there are thousands of Nigerian players scattered all over the world. Footballers should have the heart of service when they are on international duty with Nigeria.
“The present generation of players aren’t committed, they belief national team is not really important to their CVs. It’s very unfortunate. That explains why we missed out in the last two editions of the AFCON.”
