Godswill Akpabio Stadium Emerges As Options For Ghana AFCON Matches After CAF Rejects Baba Yara Stadium In Kumasi

The Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria is one of options for consideration for Ghana’s Black Stars remaining game in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, reports Sports247.

In a realised by Confederation of African Football, CAF the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi is not good enough to host the matches going forward as CAF’s inspection team failed to approve any stadium in Ghana for CAF competitions as structural defects, flooding and even playing surfaces is one of the reasons cited for rejecting stadia in Ghana.

In the release, CAF has directed Ghana to secure an alternative venue for crucial Matchday 3 and 4 ties in October outside the country and officials in Ghana are reported to prefer the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Stadium in Nigeria.

The nest of the Super Eagles is one of the modern Stadium in Africa with numerous super facilities which include a superb lush green playing surface.

The thirty thousand capacity is being considered by the Ghanaian authorities due to proximity and the brotherly nature between the citizens of the two countries.

Stadiums in Cameroon and Ghana are also in contention as Côte d’Ivoire’s Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Stade de la Paix, Cameroon’s Japoma Stadium in Douala, and the Berkane Municipal Stadium in Morocco are on their list as plan B for consideration.

The Ghana Football Association will make their preferred choice in the coming days.
