Ghanaian golfer Vincent Torgah emerged victorious at the 2023 Lakowe Invitational Golf Classic held at the Lakowe Lakes Golf Club in Lagos, Nigeria.

Torgah showcased his golfing prowess by outclassing some of West Africa’s top players to secure the title.
Torgah’s impressive performance saw him card rounds of 74, 68, and 65, finishing at nine-under par for the tournament. His stellar play gave him a commanding five-stroke lead over his competitors in the 54-hole event.
After his triumph, Torgah expressed his gratitude, stating, “I want to thank God for this victory. Lakowe Lakes is one of the most challenging courses around, and returning -7 in the closing round here is not a mean feat. I think it worked out well for me today, apart from the players on course for this event driving me to be my best as well.”
The Ghanaian golfer was awarded the winner’s prize of N2 million for his outstanding performance, contributing to his team’s overall victory.
Torgah’s team, comprised of Jummai Abdullahi, Frances Omaruaye, and Adetunji Adebayo, accumulated a total net score of 118.
The tournament’s host and primary sponsor, Chairman of Mixta Africa, Deji Ali, expressed his satisfaction with the event’s success.
He noted that the tournament had not only met its objectives but also generated significant interest in the golfing facility, extending beyond Nigeria.
“The event has proven what a belief in Nigeria can achieve, as it coincides with the celebration of Nigeria’s independence anniversary,” stated Deji Ali.
In addition to Torgah’s victory, Francis Epe, Nigeria’s highest-ranked professional golfer, secured a second-place finish at four under par. His performance contributed to his team’s success, which included Funke Oguntonnade, Lanre Shagaya, and Kingsley Okunbor.

Samba Niang, a golfer from Senegal with professional golf experience in the United States, expressed his delight at returning to Nigeria, where his golfing journey began.
Niang’s presence at the tournament added to the international flair of the event.
