In a recent interview with Sports247, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare emphasized the transformative effect of hosting the African Games, noting the acquisition of state-of-the-art sporting facilities that positioned Ghana as a host to 52 countries participating in various sporting events for the first time.
“The African Games has enhanced our tourism, sports businesses, and transport industry,” Dr. Kwaku remarked, underlining the multifaceted benefits derived from the event.
Moreover, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare pointed out that the influx of visitors for the African Games contributed to strengthening Ghana’s currency, the Cedi, as foreign currencies flowed into the country.
Looking ahead, Dr. Kwaku outlined Ghana’s strategy to diversify its sporting focus beyond football. He outlined four key pillars for future sporting success: facilities, talents, coaches, and resources. By investing in these areas, Ghana aims to achieve greater glory in various sports beyond football.
In concluding his remarks, Dr. Kwaku announced that Egypt would host the next edition of the African Games, which have been a significant sporting event on the continent since 1965.
