Germany Defeats Nigeria 3-1 in FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Group B Clash

Germany secured a 3-1 victory over Nigeria’s Falconets in an intense Group B encounter at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday night.

The win propelled Germany to the top of the group with six points from two matches, while Nigeria remains in second place with three points.

Germany took an early lead in the 17th minute through forward Sehitler Alara, who capitalized on a defensive error by Nigeria.

Despite struggling in the first half, the Falconets showed resilience after the break and equalized in the 50th minute when Okwuchukwu Chiamaka finished off a well-executed team move.

However, Germany quickly regained control of the match. Zdebel Sofie restored their lead with a clinical finish in the 61st minute, leaving the Nigerian defense unsettled.

As Nigeria pushed for an equalizer, their hopes were dashed when Ernst S. scored Germany’s third goal deep into stoppage time, sealing the victory.

Germany now holds a perfect record in the group with two wins, while Nigeria faces a tougher path to the Round of 16.

The Falconets will need a strong performance in their final group match to secure qualification.

Nigeria previously opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over South Korea, thanks to a late strike by Flourish Sabastine.

However, they struggled to contain Germany’s dominant play throughout the group stage and will shift focus to their crucial final match.
