Gateway United Football Club has issued a strong statement disassociating itself from a recent match involving a team impersonating the club.

The match, which ended in a 13-1 defeat against Sudanese side Al Merrikh, did not involve Gateway United FC, according to an official disclaimer released by the club.
The Ogun State-based club, headquartered at MKO Abiola Stadium in Kuto Abeokuta, made it clear that the team that participated in the match had no connection with them.
The club condemned the unauthorized use of its name and logo, labeling the act as illegal and stating that they had no knowledge of the match.
“We appreciate our fans’ support and understanding as we address this matter. Please rest assured that we are taking the necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future,” the statement read.
The club emphasized that they are actively pursuing measures to stop any further impersonation, warning those responsible to cease immediately or face legal consequences.
Gateway United FC has also demanded that Al Merrikh remove their logo from all websites and social media channels associated with the match.
The club urged fans and the public to rely on their official communication channels for accurate updates and information.
Mayokun Moses Ojewumi, the Media Officer for Gateway United FC, signed the disclaimer, thanking supporters for their continued loyalty during this period of confusion and ensuring them that the matter is being handled with the utmost seriousness.
