Gabe Shines As Vanung Continues Winning Streak

Humphery “Gabe” Gabriel’s Vanung University continued its winning Streak in the Taiwan University Basketball Association (UBA) League with a 109-100 win over I-Shou University.

Vanung came into the game with a 5-2 Record same as their Rivals I-Shou University and a win for either side would put them in good stead for Qualification into the Top 8.

With this in Mind, Coach Bamsim sent out his starting 5 led by Humphery “Gabe” Gabriel and the Nigerian took the game by storm finishing with a record high 33 points and 12 rebounds his Forth Double Double in the series this Season.

Vanung Finished the first Quarter 31-17 and were looking to blow out IShou when they returned for the second Quarter as they took a 17 point lead despite IShou’s resistance to end the first half 64-43.

The second half was a diffrent ball game as Ishou University came out smoking with their full court pressing to stifle Vanung, forcing several Turnovers. The 3rd Quarter ended 23-24 in favour of Ishou University.

Vanung were forced to play the game of their lives in the last quarter as they saw a 20 point lead narrowed to just 6 points with 3 minutes left on the clock. Coach Bamsim was visibly shaken on the bench as Ishou University threw everything against Vanung and went on a 10-0 point streak.

Gabe kept calm and took control of the game at both ends, Rebounding at one end and dropping clutch shots at the other end. With scores at 96-94 the Nigerian dropped from the 3 points range to Extend the gap to 9 points before Jay West who finshed with 37 points of his own drove in to lay up and draw a foul in quick succession to extend the lead to 101-96 with 54 seconds left on the clock.

Vanung held on as the game winds up despite Ishou’s Late surge to finish the tie 109-100.

” We faced a really good side, I cant really say how we lost the 20 points lead and had to struggle to win in the end, but its a good experience for us going forward and I hope we will take this experience to the next game tommorow” Humphery Gabriel said moments after the encounter.

Vanung will take on 2021 Runners Up Shih Hsin University on Friday at 15:45 Local time. A win for the Lions will take them one step closer to making the top 8.
