Chairman Depros Football Club, Emeka Godson Ehirim Jude has explained why his team conceded late minute goal against Goshen Stars in the ongoing Fusion Football Championship.
Goshen Stars forced Depros FC to a 2-2 draw in an encounter watched by football fans at Agege Stadium, Lagos.
Ehirim in a chat with journalists after the game said his players caused the late equalizer due to their inexperience. He also commended his players for the job well done but frowned how they allowed their opponents to score them at the last minute.
“It was a painful match because we have already won the game but due to my boys’ inexperience, they allowed their opponents to score the late equalizer. By and large, my boys played well and the mistake committed against their opponents would be corrected before our next game,” he said.
Ehirim said the championship is opened but tipped his team among the favourite that would win the championship.
“It is too early to determine the winner of the championship for now but all I can say is that my team are among the favourite teams that would contest for the title because we parade young players who are hungry for success,” he said.
Goshen Stars coach, Abiodun Kolawole admitted that his team faced the toughest opponents in the championship noted that both teams played good football.
“The draw was expected because we put pressure on our opponents which yielded results at the end of the day. It was a fair result for us because we did not start the championship in defeat. We would go back to training and correct our mistakes before our next match,” he said.
Kenneth Messiah drew the first blood for Goshen Stars in the 5th minute but the goal was quickly cancelled by Umar Abubakar.
Depros FC who gave an account of themselves scored the second goal in the early second-half via Ndubuisi Ewulonu. The goal spurred their opponents to put pressure on Depros FC. Their effort was rewarded in the 94th minute when Messiah scored the equalizer to salvage a draw for his team.
