National Sports Festival female table tennis bronze medalist, Funmilayo Ajala says she has set her sight on making Nigeria’s team to the 2019 All Africa Games in Morocco.
Although sports247.ng reports that Ajala was disappointed to fall short at Abuja 2019, she is excited with the strides she made in the doubles and believes that has set her on the path to the national team.
Ajala, who was in Nigeria’s silver medal team at the African Table Tennis Championship in Mauritius, said she relishes winning a silver and three bronze medals at the sports festival.
She admitted that she must now train hard to achieve her high targets of 2019, which she believes would be set in motion once she can break into the national team.
Ajala added: “My target in 2019 is to train more hard and represent Nigeria in Africa Championships including the All African Games and possibly Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
“I must give thanks to God for making me fit throughout 2018. I started this year with a silver medal at the Africa Table Tennis Championships in Mauritius before bronze at the Hungary Embassy Open Championship.
“(At the National Sports Festival) I felt excited triumphing over big names like Funke Oshonaike and Segun Toriola in the mixed doubles.
“I was tensed before the game but I later gained confidence during the course of the game.
“I won silver in the team event and three bronze in the women’s doubles, women’s single and mixed doubles.”
