Alabi disclosed that Owolabi’s success story was made possible by an agreement that took him on loan from Dazzle FC to Sporting Lagos, who recently won this year’s Gothia Cup in grand style.
Though their main team got relegated from the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) this season, Sporting Lagos Academy brought a broad smile back to the faces of their officials by shining bright in Sweden, and Owolabi was one of their key players.
The standout game that consummated victory for 17-year-old Owolabi and his teammates was a stunning 4-0 trouncing of Tokyo FC of Japan in the final, which had been preceded by a sensational victory over fellow Nigerian side, Beyond Limits FA of Ikenne in the semi-final.
Incidentally, Beyond Limits’ senior team gained promotion after emerging winners of the lower cadre Nigerian National League (NNL) this season, and will compete in the NPFL during the next campaign, while Sporting Lagos go in the opposite direction.
However, at Gothia Cup 2024, the story was different, and Alabi is happy with the role Owolabi played in ensuring that a massive consolation came for Sporting Lagos chairman, Godwin Enakhena and other administrators of the nascent club.
The consolation came from awesome performances that saw the squad from Lagos twinkle briliantly in The Land of The Midnight Sun, and Alabi has now revealed the natural assets that Owolabi flaunts.
Alabi stated at length: “Up until his loan to Sporting Lagos Academy, Mohammed Owolabi played his football with Dazzle FC.
“The midfielder is known for his stylish flair with the ball, (as well as) accuracy in passing and distributing to attackers, (while) generally taking hold and control of the midfield.
“Mohammed joined the dynamic Sporting Lagos Academy team (from Dazzle FC) and was part of the squad that won the Gothia Cup 2024 (this) season in Sweden.
“We are happy for his growth and progress. Keep watching the space.”
