With the new season fast approaching, coach Kevin Ejeh getting his team set and ready for the challenge, after Abia Comets FC produced a superior performance by thrashing Igho Football Academy of Sapele 8-0, on Friday, in a friendly match.

The encounter which took place at the Holy Ghost College Pitch, Olokoro, as Comets continues with preparation ahead of kickoff of 2023/24 Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
In an impressive opening, four minutes into the game, Kevin Ejeh side took the lead, when Akpan Ndifreke struck a delightful free kick to beat off the visitors goalkeeper to make it 1 nil.
However, the game became so easy for Comets when Innocent Ogra headed home a delightful cross from Maduka Emeka, in the 19 minutes. Before Arinze Njoku converted from the spot kick to make it 3 nil after Jonah James was brought down inside the box by a defender in the 38 minutes.
John Otomewo, who captained the team on the day strike the fourth goal three minutes later from a brilliant team move as Abia Comets went into the half time break with a 4 nil advantage .
In the second half, they continued from where they stopped in the first, through Chinatu Eluwa, who scored two brilliant goals in the 60 and 74 minutes. Before assisting Chinedu Nwankpa for the seventh goal.

Speaking with Abia Comets FC Media, shortly after the encounter, Assistant head Coach, Chinedu Obasi praised the performance of the players, but said that there is still more to come ahead of the new season.
” It’s a good test game for us, because we are still preparing for the new season, ” he told Abia Comets FC media
” We need this sort of match to see the level of preparations of the boys and also their fitness level. But so far it is a good sign and I think we are on the right track.”
