Franka Chioma Adindu: Embracing Tennis and Empowering Women on International Women’s Day

Franka Chioma Adindu, a rising tennis player with Adejumo tennis club, shared her journey and thoughts during an exclusive interview at the Amazons Tennis International Women’s Day tournament.

When asked about her performance, she said, “My game was okay, though it was the first match. The tension was there, but at least I calmed down enough to play. And yes, I won.”

On what International Women’s Day means to her, Adindu explained, “It’s a day that I’m grateful for. First of all, I’m grateful to God I’m a woman. It’s a time to celebrate our strength and break the stigma—especially the myth that fibroid issues hold us back. With proper exercise and a good diet, those challenges can be overcome. Today is for us to show that women are the best and always will be.”

Asked about her tennis journey, she revealed, “I joined Adejumo just two years ago. I’m not really good yet; my hand isn’t very strong, but I’m okay.” Despite starting later than many, she remains upbeat, saying, “I thank God—I’m already making waves.”

When discussing how tennis can motivate young women, Adindu added, “I wish young ones would start from scratch, even as early as three or four years old. Tennis is a good game that keeps you fit and boosts your confidence. I encourage all women, no matter your size, to join in. Tennis helps you stay fit and always look good.”

Adindu’s candid insights highlight her passion for the sport and her hope that more women will embrace tennis, not just as a game, but as a way to empower themselves.
