Four teams are now through to the Semi Finals of the African Khmer Unity cup 2023 following the conclusion of the Group Phase last weekend at the Boueng Trabek Stadium Phnom Penh
Only Two matches were played following the suspension of Ambassador FC after they abandoned their week 6 encounter against LIONS FC.
On Saturday, Basic FC consolidated their position on the top of the table with a 2-0 win over Marlians with goals from Momoh Degule and Dialo to give them 16 points while Imperial FC moved to second on the table with 10 points on Sunday with a 6-0 bashing of New Peace United.
Marlians finished 3rd with 10 points but less Goals Difference than Imperial while Real Phnom Penh edged out LIONS FC to take the last spot with 9 points will.
Due to the Cambodia Election coming up on 23rd July, The semifinals will now take place on 29th and 30th. Marlians will face off with Imperial on Saturday 29th while On Sunday, Basic FC will take on Real Phnom Penh in the second Semi finals. Both Games will kick off at 7pm at the Boueng Trabek Stadium
The African Khmer Unity cup is being organized as a pre-season tournament ahead of the 2023/24 Cambodia premier league with several CPL players on parade as well as potential CPL players.
Players like Bisan George, Kelechi George, Momoh Degule, Mathew Osas, Julius , Yemi, Paul Omogba, Gbenga Ajayi who have won the Cambodia Premier league on different occasions are thrilling the fans week in week out with some great football and spectacular goals.
In Week 5, a total of 90 goals were scored in the group stage with Imperial’s Gibson Ataihu leading the park with 7 goals. Other top scorers includes Bisan George of Marlians , Imperial’s Abraham, Jackie of Peace United and Emmanuel Asia Burger of Ambassador with 5 goals each. Hassan of Lions FC has 4 goals
