Former Super Falcons striker Desire Oparanozie expressed jubilation after the team qualified for the Paris Olympics, marking a significant milestone after 16 years.
Despite not having the opportunity to play in the Olympics herself, Oparanozie conveyed her excitement for the team’s achievement and wished them success in representing Nigeria and Africa on the global stage.
“Honestly, I am extremely happy. I’m excited for the Super Falcons. I mean, it’s been a very long time. 16 years of not being at the Olympics is a big deal. And I am particularly happy for the team.”
Oparanozie’s joy for the Super Falcons’ success reflects her deep connection to the team and her pride in their accomplishment after years of absence from the Olympics.
She highlights the significance of the moment for both the players and Nigerian football as a whole.
“Having the 90% of the team, the scoring squad, getting to experience that in this year’s summer is everything. I’m happy for the girls and I am very happy for Nigerians as a whole.”
Reflecting on the team’s composition and capabilities, Oparanozie expressed confidence in their ability to shine at the Olympics and make their country proud.
She lauded their determination and talent, emphasizing their potential to excel on the international stage.
“I am happy and I believe that they will do well. If we are grouped against Spain, Japan and Brazil, Spain is the current world champion when it comes to the World Cup. Also, Japan, also former world champion, Brazil is the household name and all of that.”
Oparanozie acknowledged the challenging competition that awaits the Super Falcons in their Olympic group but remained optimistic about their prospects.
She expressed faith in the team’s abilities to compete against formidable opponents and leave a mark in France.
Oparanozie extended her congratulations to the Super Falcons and wished them the best of luck as they prepare to represent Nigeria and Africa at the Paris Olympics, confident in their ability to excel on the grand stage.
“I think it’s going to be a tough group, but I believe in these girls and I know they will make a name for themselves in France come this summer. So congratulations to the team and all the best.”
