Ndubuisi Egbo, former goalkeeper of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, has appealed to the Nigerian football community to rally behind the national team as they gear up for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Offering insights into the challenges faced by the coaching staff in finalizing the squad, Egbo emphasized the need for unwavering support from fans.
“I still believe that the coach still has enough time to be able to bring out the final list. Having a team like the Nigerian national team, where you have a lot of very good players, he would have a big task choosing those who are going to represent the final 23 or 25, whatever number it’ll be,” Egbo remarked, acknowledging the complexity of the selection process.
Reflecting on the difficulty of the coach’s role in making crucial decisions, Egbo highlighted the abundance of talent within the national team.
He expressed confidence in the coach’s ability to navigate the challenging task of selecting players who will represent Nigeria in the prestigious AFCON tournament.
“So the coach is the one that trains the team; he’s the one that has direct contact with the players, and I believe he knows his plans. And at the right time, he’s going to provide the list he has.
He still has some time, at least two weeks before the competition. Then the list will be out. That’s my take on this issue,” Egbo affirmed, trusting the coach’s expertise and emphasizing the importance of patience in the lead-up to the competition.
As anticipation builds for the AFCON, Egbo’s call for unified support underscores the collective responsibility of fans and stakeholders in fostering a positive atmosphere for the Super Eagles, as they embark on their quest for continental glory.
