Nkiyu’s optimism comes in the wake of Sao Tome and Principe’s withdrawal from the WAFCON qualifier, which automatically propelled the Super Falcons to the second round of the qualifiers.
Nkiyu believes that this withdrawal serves as an added advantage for the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to provide the women’s national team with the best possible support as they prepare for the next stage of the qualifiers. He emphasized that the Super Falcons possess the complete team needed to face any challenge on the road to WAFCON.
Addressing concerns about the delay in appointing a coach for the Nigeria Women’s team, Nkiyu expressed his conviction that this would not hinder the Super Falcons’ performance. He pointed to the team’s remarkable showing at the Women’s World Cup as evidence of their capabilities.
“The Super Falcons have the best squad to secure their Women’s Nations Cup ticket. We already have a complete team that can hold its own against any team in the world, as demonstrated by their performance at the World Cup. Any coach entrusted with the Super Falcons already has a talented team to work with,” Nkiyu affirmed.
As the Super Falcons gear up for the upcoming qualifiers and the quest for a coveted WAFCON ticket, the faith of their former coach and the wealth of talent within the team signal promising prospects for Nigerian women’s football on the continental stage.
