On Tuesday, 17th May 2022, the League Management Company (LMC) of the Nigeria Professional Football League sealed an elite partnership deal with a high-flying tech company, Bitnob which is the chairman of the LMC Alhaji Shehu Dikko describes as a marriage critical to football development in Nigeria.
Bitnob last year pioneered in Africa the lightning network, a layer 2 bitcoin protocol that enables instant and almost free bitcoin transactions for everyday monetary exchange as well as being the first company in the world, partnering with Bitwage, to process the world’s first bitcoin payroll on Lightning.
“We are excited to see young minds choosing to invest in the growth and development of our domestic league. Football is a major passion point in the country, and we believe that the marriage of football and technology is critical to the next phase of football in our nation,” said Dikko.
The unveiling ceremony which was held at the luxury Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja had in attendance Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Davidson Owumi, CEO of LMC, Salihu Abubakar, COO of LMC, Danladi Isaac, Chairman of NPFL Club Owners Association and Harry Iwuala, LMC Head of Special Projects.
The Bitnob team included Adenale Osideinde, the COO, Isioma Onyegikei, Head of Customer Experience, Abubakar Nur Khalil, Recursive Capital, an investor in Bitnob were present to witness and complete the partnership deal.
