Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Joseph Dosu has urged Nigerian soccer fans to refrain from scolding the youth national team, Flying Eagles for failing to win the African U-20 Cup of Nations, as he believes the squad gave their best during the competition, sports247.ng reports.
Although Coach Paul Aigbogun’s side also failed to win bronze, after losing the third place match to South Africa via penalties shoot-out on Saturday, Dosu insists the lads should be encouraged to improve.
Dosu is of a view that Aigbogun’s squad were successful in Niger Republic, considering that they picked a ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup, billed for Poland in May, and argued that that alone is worth celebrating.
The former AC Regianna of Italy shot-stopper, who is now an acclaimed players’ representative and agent, added that all the Flying Eagles need now is total support and adequate preparations for them to do better at the Youth Mundial, from which they have two silver medals in years past.
Dosu intoned: “I believe the Flying Eagles did well. Although they could not win the cup in Niger Republic, I credit them for their efforts.
“At least, they qualified for the U-20 World Cup. So, we have to praise them for that and now support them to do better at the World Cup.”
