Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles will on Wednesday honour the late former secretary-general of the country’s soccer governing body, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi by wearing black arm bands for their Africa U-20 Cup of Nations semi-final against Mali.
Sports247.ng gathered that the Flying Eagles will have the opportunity of paying their last respects in far away Niger Republic to the ex-scribe of then Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) with their crunch game.
All the players, officials and coaching crew, led by Paul Osahon Aigbogun will wear black bands, following approval by Confederation of African Football (CAF), sequel to a request by the NFF.
The NFF made the request in respect of Monday’s passing of Ogunjobi, who was also a former chairman of the technical committee and died as chairman of Osun State Football Association.
Ogunjobi, who was also a former national team player and ex-captain of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), died at University College Hospital, Ibadan after a brief illness.
NFF’s director of competitions, Bola Oyeyode said: “We have received a go-ahead from CAF that the Flying Eagles can use the black armbands.
“It is the least honour that we can accord such an accomplished man who was a football person through and through.”
