Nigeria U20 Men Football Team, the Flying Eagles will begin the defence of the WAFU B U20 Men’s title today, Friday 18 2024 as the tourney began yesterday in Togo Lome, Sports 247 reports.
Flying Eagles will take on the Junior Stallions of Burkina Faso in a group B match on Friday by 4 pm Nigerian time at the Municipal Stadium in Lome Togo to begin a quest to qualify for the 2025 CAF Energies U20 Africa Cup of Nations Cup.
The coach of the Flying Eagles, Zubair Aliyu declared that the team is ready as the Nigeria Football Federation has given them the necessary support to go all the way and pick one of the U20 AFCON tickets at stake, which is the top priority for the team.
Zubair said : ” The team is fully ready”.
“Before setting a target, we have to qualify first, and securing a ticket to the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations is our number one priority”.
A win for the Flying Eagles today will put them in a good stead to qualify from the group B and they will only need a draw in their second and final group game against Cote ‘d’iviore .
Meanwhile, the competition began yesterday with two group A matches.
Ironically, both games ended iin 2-2 draws as nothing separated the teams after the first round of matches .
In a thrilling opening match , the host Togo started their campaign with a 2-2 draw with Niger Republic.
On the other hand , Ghana needed a late minute equaliser against Benin Republic via Gabriel Moulero to snatch a 2-2 draw.
