As the Flamingos gear up to represent Nigeria on the global stage, Head Coach Bankole Olowookere sheds light on his final team selection for the 2024 U17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic later this month.
“I just have to say kudos to the girls that made the final team selection. It has been a serious hardworking time for them.
We went through lots of rigorous training, and we were so careful in selecting them based on their merit. Based on that I can say pure merit.
They really worked for it, and I can say that they deserve the call-up to the team.”

When asked about the criteria for the selections and the minimal changes to the qualifying squad, Coach Olowookere explained, “They competed massively in terms of getting the result, and not only that, returning to the final camping, they never dropped form.
They remained the same; in fact, they stepped ahead of what they had been doing before, and that made it difficult for the newcomers invited to the team to keep up.
Out of all the people that came, only one of them was excellent in performance and made it as one of the players in the final team.”
The Flamingos’ preparations reflect their commitment and readiness to showcase their talent on the world stage, with Coach Olowookere expressing confidence in the team’s capabilities and determination.
