Flamingos Begin Final Preparations for U-17 Women’s World Cup; Coach Olowookere Invites 35 Players to Camp

Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere has extended invitations to 35 players for Nigeria’s U-17 girls’ camp, as the team kicks off the first phase of their final preparations for the 8th FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. The prestigious tournament will take place in the Dominican Republic later this year.

The Nigerian squad had a stellar qualifying campaign, amassing an impressive 25 goals across six matches.

They dominated their opponents with two 6-0 victories over the Central African Republic, a 7-1 aggregate win against Burkina Faso, and a 6-1 aggregate triumph over Liberia, which secured their place in the global tournament.

The standout players in the squad include Harmony Chidi, who scored a record 13 goals during the qualifiers, alongside her strike partner Peace Effiong.

Team captain Taiwo Afolabi, goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma, and defender Prisca Nwachukwu also headline the list of invitees. These key players will form the backbone of the Flamingos as they aim to leave a significant mark on the world stage.

The 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to be held in Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo from October 16 to November 3. With a strong track record in past tournaments, the Flamingos are set to compete with the best, aiming to secure the coveted title.
