In a recent interview on Sports Salsa, Finidi George confirmed his imminent appointment as the new head coach of Rivers United FC.
The Nigerian football legend, who had a brief stint as a national team coach, is set to bring his wealth of experience and tactical acumen to the Port Harcourt-based club.

“We are almost there. We had discussions yesterday and today we should be done. Today we’ll shut it down,” he stated, signaling the final stages of his contract negotiations with Rivers United.
When asked about the transition from his role with the national team to a club coach, Finidi noted the importance of staying active in the coaching world. “Yeah, I think it’s good, you know, for a coach you can’t just idle. 
We are all watching the Euros, these are top coaches, these are top players, but yeah, you see sometimes you definitely lose to others,” he explained.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by coaches but remained optimistic about his new role at Rivers United.
Rivers United, which missed out on a continental ticket this season, presents a new challenge for Finidi.
The club is eager to regain its status and compete in African competitions. “Yeah, we will try our best and see what we can do,” Finidi responded when asked about his objectives with the team.
His immediate goal is to guide Rivers United to a league title and secure their place in continental competitions once again.
Reflecting on his time at Enyimba, Finidi noted the positive impact he had on the club. “They are playing the Confederation Cup this season, so that is a good one for them,” he said, highlighting the successful foundation he helped build.
Despite leaving Enyimba, he remains supportive and hopeful for their continued success.
