FIFA President, Gianni Infantino has congratulated the players, technical crew, management, supporters, and everyone at Rivers United, for their emergence as the champions of the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League title, Sports247 Nigeria can confirm.
Recall, Rivers United have confirmed champions of the ongoing season of the NPFL last month, despite having three games in hand then to win their first-ever league title.
In a letter addressed to the President of the Nigeria President Football Federation(NFF), Amaju Pinnick, and made available to Sports247 Nigeria, the FIFA Boss congratulated ‘The Pride of Rivers’ for a successful season and lauded the hard work, passion, and dedication of everyone at the club.
The letter reads;
“It is with great pleasure that I congratulate Rivers United FC for having been crowned 2021/22 champions of Nigeria!
This title could not have been achieved without the entire team’s hard work, passion, and dedication, and everyone at the club can be very proud. Please extend my congratulations to everybody involved in this great achievement.
On behalf of the entire football community, I also take this opportunity to thank you and your federation for your contribution to the development and prosperity of football in Nigeria, in your region, and in Africa. I look forward to seeing you soon.”
Also, Rivers United set a new record of points accumulated by a league champion with their 1-0 win over Kano Pillars on Sunday, taking their season’s tally to 74 points. The previous record-holder was Dolphins F.C of Port Harcourt, with 73 points in the 2010/2011 NPFL season.
