Nigeria’s quest to have Amaju Pinnick mount the podium as one of two candidates from the anglophone region elected into the FIFA council at the fast-approaching CAF election, got a major boost Saturday as two key rivals stepped down following the timely intervention of Nigeria sports minister, Sunday Dare.
NFF president Amaju Pinnick has gone about his campaign with the full backing of the federal government of Nigeria who only two days ago, came out with a categorical declaration that they are solidly behind him and are pulling their full weight to rally support for his candidacy.
In keeping to their words, the Nigeria sports minister, Sunday Dare spoke with one of the candidates after Amaju informed him of the increasing intrigues and the need for government to move in.
A journalist of over two decades and a politician of repute, Dare was able to convince one of the candidates while Pinnick on his part has shown he is a master of the game as played a key role in getting the other candidate to step down.
As much as they will not want to make the names of these persons public until it becomes official, it is looking more like a stroll to the FIFA House in Luzerne, Switzerland, for Amaju whose rise to the top echelon of Africa and world football have left tongues wagging.
If all goes as planned, between now and March 12 when the election will hold, the coast will become even clearer as Amaju and Dare continues to strategies on how to make the Nigerian dream a reality
